Pop's Barn

Where to Find Live Edge Wood Slabs in New Jersey

Short answer: Pop’s Barn, a working sawmill at 183 Forest Lake Drive in Byram Township, Sussex County, NJ. We cut our own logs, dry them in our own kiln, and sell the slabs straight off the rack: walnut, ambrosia maple, cherry, white oak, red oak, hickory, elm, cedar and more. Big slabs are the specialty, pieces over 10 feet long and 40-plus inches wide that the big-box lumberyards don’t carry.

Why buy from a sawmill instead of a store

  • You see the real slab. Every listing is the actual piece, not a sample.
  • No middleman. The people who cut it are the people you’re buying from.
  • You know when it was cut and how dry it is. Every listing shows drying status and the month it was milled.
  • Sizes stores don’t carry. Most retail slab shops top out around 36″ wide.

What customers say

★★★★★
I was fortunate enough to stumble across Pop's Barn about a year ago, and I have never looked back. First and foremost - they are extremely knowledgeable and you are able to ask questions. Their inventory is second to none and they mill and kiln everything in house, so you know that you are getting quality. The products that I have purchased from them have been absolutely beautiful, including a large 12x4 foot oak slab that became my family dining room table. I have also purchased maple, black walnut, and other species - all of them were great. What also needs mentioning is the quality of people that Pops and Will are - working with them is like seeing old friends - they are welcoming, helpful, and always get back to me quickly with any request I may have. I look forward to a long partnership with them! You should too!

Live Edge Slabs in NJ: Common Questions

Where can I find live edge wood slabs in New Jersey?

Pop's Barn, a working sawmill at 183 Forest Lake Drive in Byram Township, Sussex County. We cut our own logs, dry them in our own kiln, and sell the slabs straight off the rack. Everything in stock is listed online with photos, dimensions and prices.

Do you have slabs big enough for a large dining table or conference table?

Yes. Big slabs are what we do. We regularly have pieces over 10 feet long and more than 40 inches wide, the sizes most lumberyards and big-box stores never carry.

What wood species do you carry?

Black walnut, ambrosia maple, hard and soft maple, cherry, white oak, red oak, hickory, elm, black locust and eastern red cedar, plus whatever came off the last log. Stock changes as we cut.

Are the slabs kiln dried?

We kiln dry on site. Each listing shows its condition, and we can send a moisture reading before you buy.

How are slabs priced?

By the board foot: length times width times thickness, divided by 144, times the species rate. Extra-wide slabs cost more per board foot. The slab price calculator on our site does the math.

Can I hold a slab before I pick it up?

Yes. A 25% deposit online reserves the slab while you sort out pickup or delivery.

Do you deliver to New York City?

Yes, curbside, for a delivery fee. We quote it with the slab.
